It takes an engaged community to raise their voices and impact legislative change. This is what WE accomplished in this 2026 legislative session.
During the 2026 legislative session, our community showed up in powerful ways. Together, we took action on approximately 27 bills, including 23 bills we supported and 4 we opposed. Across these efforts, community members signed in, testified, made calls, and emailed lawmakers to push forward meaningful reforms and stop harmful legislation.
Our advocacy focused on advancing reentry support, reducing legal financial burdens, improving prison conditions, expanding opportunities for young people, and strengthening accountability and oversight across the system. At the same time, we worked to stop policies that would increase fines and fees, expand criminalization, or roll back progress.
This session took place in a challenging environment. A 60-day timeline, a significant budget deficit, and competing statewide priorities made it difficult for many bills to move forward. Across the bills we engaged on, only a handful ultimately made it across the finish line, while many others advanced partway through the process before stalling.
