Civil Survival is led by and for formerly incarcerated individuals.

Our community organizers work to organize people who have been directly impacted by the criminal justice system to build connections, gain knowledge, and increase political participation.

Leadership Development

Our leadership development program works to develop formerly incarcerated leaders’ advocacy and leadership skills.

Legislative and Policy Advocacy

Our legislative work develops the capacity of the formerly incarcerated community to use their lived experience to lead legislative and policy reform efforts. In 2021 we successfully helped pass HB 1078 to restore voting rights to all individuals upon release from incarceration, which allows them to participate in our democracy immediately upon coming home.

Reentry Legal Aid Program

Our Reentry Legal Aid Program works to address the legal needs of formerly incarcerated individuals through mass assistance days, direct client representation, and the development and distribution of legal self-help resources.
